Gro-A-Tog

A three-color tempo deck — also known as GAT — that grew out of the Vintage classic. Gro-A-Tog deploys a cheap threat, protects it with counters, and rides cantrips to victory.

Quirion Dryad is the engine. Every time you cast a white, blue, black, or red spell (any color other than green), Dryad gets a +1/+1 counter. In a deck packed with blue cantrips, white removal, and multicolor spells, Dryad grows to 5/5 or 6/6 within two turns of landing.

Gush draws two cards for free by bouncing Islands. Each Gush triggers Dryad, digs for more action, and resets your Island count for another Gush or Daze. Portent and Opt are one-mana cantrips that trigger Dryad and smooth your draws. The deck churns through itself at remarkable speed.

Meddling Mage names a critical card when it enters — Pernicious Deed, Goblin Lackey, Oath of Druids, whatever scares you most. It’s a 2/2 body that also grows Dryad when cast.

Counterspell and Daze protect your threats. Daze is especially powerful in a tempo deck — returning an Island costs you almost nothing when Gush wants Islands in hand anyway.

Swords to Plowshares handles any creature for one white mana. Fire // Ice kills X/2 creatures or taps a blocker and draws a card — both halves trigger Dryad.

Mox Diamond accelerates by a full turn, enabling turn-one Dryad into turn-two Meddling Mage with Daze backup. City of Brass and Flooded Strand support the three-color mana base.

Gro-A-Tog rewards tight play and metagame knowledge. Every cantrip decision matters — do you dig for a counter or a threat? Do you Gush now or save it for Daze mana? The ceiling is extremely high.
